Digitalks is a virtual brown bag meeting by Breadnbeyond’s Digital Marketing team where all valuable information, feedback, ideas, seminars, and training sessions are shared.

Gone are the days when selling products was a door-to-door practice.

As we go towards the digital world, you can tell that tradition has nearly vanished from society.

Nowadays, selling products is more like creating art, where the creativity and strategy of a salesperson are put on the line.

Our senior salesperson, Ruth Jessica, who has been in the field for more than five years, shares her journey of becoming a salesperson.

Ruth reveals her art of selling and some keys to being a good salesperson. So, get your pen and notes ready because valuable insights are coming your way!

The Basics of a Salesperson

Ruth defines a salesperson as a person whose job is selling things in a shop or directly to customers.

A salesperson is a very first face a potential customer meets when they want to purchase products or services.

Imagine if the first impression goes wrong.

The opportunity of getting a deal can go in vain instantly.

So, a salesperson is key to making potential customers put their trust in a company and eventually spend some money on a product.

Ruth’s Sales Flow

Ruth then shares a glimpse of her work life as a salesperson at Breadnbeyond, an award-winning explainer video company.

She explains her job is selling service, not a product.

Unlike the traditional way, Ruth uses online tools to support her job, such as Zoom, Skype, and Google meet for virtual meetings and CRM for lead tracking.

The job circles in Breadnbeyond sales department include:

  • Contacting potential customers by email or direct call
  • Sending the first email
  • Scheduling for a virtual meeting
  • Sending the second email
  • Giving contract
  • Requesting an invoice from the finance team
  • Sharing project details to Account Managers (AM)
  • Introducing the assigned AM to the client

How to Achieve Target

Every employee has a target they must achieve within a specific period, and so does Ruth.

How does Ruth achieve her goals as a salesperson? Here are some keys she shares:

  • Send follow-up emails to customers
  • Ask for referrals from existing customers
  • Do retail events
  • Do promotions

How to be a Good Salesperson

As of now, Ruth has always met her target and generated many customers for the company.

She shares her secret sauce for becoming a good salesperson, which is:

  • Always be prepared
  • Ready to go the extra miles
  • Be a good listener
  • Be friendly
  • Be talk-active (but know your limits)
  • Confidence is key
  • Product knowledge is also a key
  • Be organized
  • Always send follow-up emails to customers
  • And, never give up

The Challenges of a Salesperson

Throughout her career, Ruth has faced many challenges but has been able to conquer each of them.

Some of the challenges of a salesperson, according to Ruth, are:

  • Clients with complex products or services that need you to go the extra miles
  • Demanding clients
  • Unmatched target and internal teams
  • Extreme time difference if clients are across countries

A salesperson is the first person you’ll meet before purchasing a product or a service.

Their skills are vital to defining potential customers’ decisions, whether to spend their money or leave without a trace.

So, shall we agree that a salesperson is one of the primary keys to a company’s success?
