How Does Google Work?
Crawling and Indexing
Crawlers/Google Spiders → gather public information all over websites → take data back to Google → indexed.
Ranking algorithm
Google changes algorithm 500–600 times/year BUT provides guidelines → Google ranking factors.
Keywords
Keywords are phrases people use to find what they’re looking for on the search engine.
They tell search engines about the content of your website’s page.
How to choose potential keywords
- They have search demand
- They have traffic potential
- They have business potential
- They match search intent
- You have a chance to rank for those keywords
Search Intent
Search intent is the term used to describe the purpose of an online search.
It’s a way to understand people's intentions when searching a keyword, e,g, gathering information, buying products, etc.
3Cs’ to consider:
- Content Type. Blog posts, videos (from explainer videos to presentation videos), categories, product pages, landing pages
- Content Format
Blog posts: — tutorials, listings, opinions
Landing pages: — calculators/tools, forms
3. Content Angle.… for beginners, update 20XX, basic guide, etc.
On-page SEO
On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing web page content for search engines and users.
It helps content position in the search rankings.
How to do on-page SEO practices
- Aims to satisfy the searcher’s intent
- Address things people want to see

- Readability

Off-page SEO
Off-page SEO is actions taken outside of your own website to impact your rankings within search engine results pages.
